What's the deal, salsa people? Last night's helper's meeting was awesome, especially the casino rueda workshop. Now I know we had classes about 2 years ago and maybe there wasn't enough interest but I believe that's about to change. Allow me to be the first to get the party started. It would be wicked if we had casino rueda classes on a permanent basis, possibly next semester. If anyone is feeling me right about now, let you voice be heard and raise da roof. Holla back at ya boy!

I second that.

Casino Rueda is amazing and fun dance. This is the authentic cuban style and it is a must to learn if you want to be a good dancer. Lets ask Sharon to have this class. Please show your interest!

Happy dancing,

MC

yeah!!! Id love it if this materialized!!!!

In Miami it was structured in 10 different levels. One would take about two weeks to pass the levels 1 to 3, two to three weeks for levels 4 to 6 and four or more weeks for levels 7 to 10; this assumed at least 2 classes per week with the objective to not only learn the step but also do it in a very smooth way. To go from one level to the other, the student needed to take a test with an instructor; but you could take the test after any class. The drop-out rate was, in my opinion, very low; 15% to 25% throughout the 10 levels (not after each level) because of motivational factors in place (e.g.: peer pressure and sense of accomplishment).

Following is the link to a chain of videos with all the steps; I like these ones because they are numbered (1 to 40) and you learn the name of the step and the hand signal too. This step is called besito http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JzKmXlXygQ&feature=related

I also loved the class. It was tons of fun. I am in if we can convince Sharon to get a class going.

Yeah, unfortunately I could only stay for part of the workshop but it seemed really cool and a great variation from regular salsa (which a lot of us do non-stop)! From what I saw it looked fun & energetic. I'd be up to it as a new challenge.
