Probably the best salsa band on the planet is coming to Toronto !!!

Name a better salsa group that turns out recent hits and remains fresh and innovative.

PUPY Y LOS QUE SON SON on SATURDAY MAY 24th THE OPERA HOUSE
735 Queen street East (at Broadview)

The closest to the atmosphere of a Salsa concert in Cuba that you can get in to in Canada !!

Here are some video clips on You tube of Pupy in action !!

There must be a reason why every year 2 or 3 of the most famous salsa groups from Cuba come to Toronto to full houses and people are willing to pay $35 to $40.

A lot of Cuban salsa music fans are not fans of regular salsa. And vice versa, a lot of salsa fans are not into Cuban salsa. It is not just a matter of nationalism, but of musical taste. A lot of salsa people get into salsa because dance shows like Dancing with the Stars or So, you think you can dance. They get into it not for the music. Latin salsa fans
use salsa music as a source of Latin pride in Canada, but they more concentrate on songs with good melodies and romantic lyrics.

A lot of people who are into Hip Hop like Cuban salsa because of the heavy bass and emphasis on rhythm. Fans of world music like Cuban salsa like it because it sounds different and less commercial. It is something that has a PHAT beat.

Think of reggae, African music, hip hop, disco and you will think of Cuban salsa (TIMBA).

Now think of the direct opposite of West African dancing and Gangsta Rap or Hip Hop and it will something closer to this, which is cool too, but you must admit it is very far from what I am talking about.

Here are some guys who never be on Dancing with the Stars, So, you think that you can dance, any Winter Carnival or salsa congress.

Here is something you can't see in a Toronto nightclub 2 or 3 guys dancing side to side and copying steps. People are more couple centered here.

This is what "shines" that actually follow the clave (the quick-quick-slow) look like. This is what rhythm looks like in dancing. How many advanced dancers can actually clap out the clave in a salsa song or snap to any beat in any salsa song in Toronto?

This is what "street" means in salsa dancing.

This is what I noticed when I was in Cuba...the guys dancing with eachother... well actually just inventing a bunch of shines and then 'teaching' eachother. Each person would try something different and the other guys would copy. It was really cool, and you don't really see guys doing that in toronto.
