I just came back from a meeting with someone and when he found out that I was into salsa dancing, we got into a bit of a discussion about it and he told me that he used to be in the scene a few years ago.
He shared that he found the salsa scene slightly odd....in the sense that he would see the same faces at all the different clubs he went to.

Also odd in the sense that he would see these salsa superstars in the clubs, but when running into them in real life they were just ordinary people. Shortly after, asked me if I found it funny how 'salsa saves people.'
I suddenly felt a little defensive. I mean, I kinda knew what he was driving at, but I suppose to hear it vocalized in that way made the statement seem a little derrogatory.

I mean...salsa is a hobby, just like any other hobby. People get into salsa for so many reasons, whether it's to build confidence and find your inner diva or simply to try something new or meet some new people. I guess it just happens to be a hobby that can look flashy and sexy and yeah, maybe even 'superstar.' Where else everyday life can you express yourself like you can on the dancefloor? Just because a person may not be flashy or expressive in 'real life' doesn't mean that they don't have those qualities on the inside.

What do you think? Do you have a salsa alter ego?

I don't know whether it is an alter ego but you can be anything you like on the dance floor and even though it is you dancing, it is a freer, sexier more confident you. You wear a suit for work every day and watch what you say so you are correct and proper and then you get into a sexy outfit and go dancing at night and you feel like a completely different free person but it is still you, just a different part of you. I thnk it is great that salsa allows you to do this.

I have met lawyers and engineers and doctors who work very hard and seriously during the day but then play very hard at night on the dance floor. That is why I love salsa!!

What's the deal, salsa people? If you ask me, I don't really have a salsa ego. It's more like I'm being myself with the volume turned up to 20 and sometimes 50 if I really need to let loose. I've always been this way when I was clubbing back in the day. I think there's a lot of people who are like that as well. Holla back at ay boy!

Yeah, I agree...it's good that salsa is a way for people to express themselves... I mean, who really shows their wild side at work anyway... most people I work with only know about 25% of my personality since I have my professional face on!
I'm sure others are the same way.
