It is difficult and overwhelming as a beginner to shop for salsa music; however, one tried and true compilation I always recommend people looking for music is the "Beginner's Guide To Salsa" This is a three CD set that contains original recordings of salsa classics. Each CD focuses on a different tempo, with slower, medium and fast songs. It is great for practice and fun to listen to. Here is a link to the amazon.com page for this: http://www.amazon.com/Beginners-Guide-Salsa-Various-Artists/dp/B00009ZV71/sr=1-1/qid=1168557743/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-6882757-5584017?ie=UTF8&s=music

Have fun,
Alfred

Good question. Non salsa music is easy to find but salsa music to download is harder. Try itunes although I can't find all of the top ten songs there.

See what you can find on www.torrentscan.com.

If you're new to torrents you'll wanna google up uTorrent, BitTorrent or Azureus (I use Azureus) which is a download client you need.

Download one of the aforementioned programs and get it installed. Go to the above website and search one of the torrent search engines there for something you want (like salsa music!). You'll most likely find a large compilation of albums. You'll want to find something that has a good amount of downloads and the more seeders the better. (more people to download from)

Click on the searched item that you wish to get, and it will take you to a detail page, where you should find a link to download the .torrent file. Open this with the download client you got earlier and it should do the rest. (you may have to tell it where your default save location will be)

To start I would recommend searching just salsa and see what comes up. Artist specific material wasn't something I noticed much of, unless it was mainstream music. (which there is a serious abundance of)

Let me know if this was helpful or if you have questions.

Also remember to use peerguardian (http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/) or something similar when you are using anything peer2peer (such as limewire or torrents, etc.) because it helps keep those nasty people from sending you emails! (lawyers, etc.) And you do need to keep it up to date (the definition files) so set it to check for updates frequently...
