I just received this fun email in case anyone is interested:

Ever felt inspired to break out into dance while strolling on the street? Well now you can!

Harbourfront Centre is planning a surprise mob dance performance to kick-off the 2010 World Routes Summer Festivals! Additionally, we are creating a second mob dance performance for our opening festival weekend, The Hot Spot, at the Harbourfront Centre site itself. If you cannot participate in the launch flash mob, stay tuned for more information on this second opportunity.

We are currently looking for up to 250 people from the GTA of all shapes, sizes and ages to volunteer for this fun and unique event! All you need is a little bit of coordination (but not too much), lots of energy and the ability to keep a secret. So bring your friends and family along for this once-in-a-lifetime initiative!

We are also recruiting a group of 50 core dancers to lead the flash mob. In order to be part of this core group, you must be able to attend AT LEAST ONE of the group rehearsals at Harbourfront Centre and you must commit to learning the choreography in full (via group rehearsals and/or YouTube video tutorial). Prior dance experience would be beneficial to these participants!

This core group will learn the moves to a dance routine created by well-known choreographers Jennifer Nichols and Anisa Tejpar of Hit & Run Productions ( via three group rehearsals at Harbourfront Centre, and a video tutorial available on the Harbourfront Centre YouTube Channel.

50 core dancers to lead the flash mob choreographed by Hit & Run Productions.

Up to 250 other participants to parade with us, hand out buttons and brochures, and join the simple dance at the end of the mob performance.

What is a Flash Mob Dance anyway? It is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform surprise acts with choreography for a brief time, then quickly disperse. Like the popular "wave" among fans at sports stadiums that starts small and eventually encircles the arena, the flash mob begins spontaneously among a small group of people at a town square or outdoor area. More and more people join in until the whole square is dancing.

Group Rehearsals at Harbourfront Centre
Tuesday, June 22 from 6-9 p.m.
Wednesday, June 23 from 6-9 p.m.
Monday, June 28 from 6-9 p.m.
