In the past few years I have heard more and more regular songs being incorporated with salsa music.
I only like to hear them once and awhile but they are cute to sing along to since I am not a spanish speaking dancer (singer) LOL
Recently, DJ Evan played Hotel California by the Eagles, at one of the Sunday Socials at TDS. I want to thank fellow Assistant Instructor, Winnie, for allowing the floor, while dancing, to sing along to the whole song..she was laughing away and having fun at my singing but we laughed together afterwards...it was cute.
One of my favourites is Clocks, by Cold Play...it has been turned into an amazing chacha song. I remember my mouth dropped one night at Babaluu's when it came on and how easily the song was transfered into such a powerful piece of music to dance too!!!

I was thinking about your topic today (Saturday) when I was helping Velina's salsa class and she suddenly played very well known song to me "A Hard Day's Night" - The Beatles.

Of course it wasn't The Beatles but Salsa version of it I guess singing by Johnny Rivera:

It's nice to hear this kind of songs in our favourite dance style. Smile

Do you have more examples? Please let us know.

Now that we've opened the English language salsa song topic up I'm starting to notice them everywhere!

DJ Evan played "No Woman No Cry" at the Sunday social - like the "Careless Whisper" salsa, I think it's kinda cheesy, but I LOVE IT!!!!

The problem is that I start singing along and then totally lose focus on my dancing...haha! Anybody else have this problem or am I the only one singing?

Once a song and dance girl, always a song and dance girl!

Smile

Actually I love to sing along and dance. It makes me to get more into it and dance better, I hope. Smile

But then again, it can be difference for a follower and a leader. The follower should probably focus on the signals from the leader and thus it can be more harder to sing, recognize the signals and dance...

What do you think?

Ain't no Pavarotti and rarely remember words, so everybody please relax - I don't sing when I dance Smile
To my defence I can only say that actual meaning of the lyrics could be completely clashing with the dance moves, and it feels dissonant.
I hum sometimes, though, and wonder if it still might sound annoying for the partner...
