I like Anthony's last post. That was pretty hot. I think you can probably lead that in a social dance environment.

The Venezuelan teacher for Salsa for Singles in Toronto says that there are no salsa teachers in Latin America on her website. She may not have studied salsa formally (I think her background is modern dance), but there are salsa teachers in Latin America as well. It is pity she says this because it continues the myth that more Latin Americam salsa dancing is more unrefined, untrained and unprofessional. Well, here are some Cuban teachers that have taught some of the Cuban style teachers in Toronto.

Isaiah Rojas. Sarita Leyva`s teacher. He is based in Havana and has taught many Cubans and foreigners and is respected throughout the island.

Notice it is called CASINO even though it is just one couple.

Angel Santos. Vladimir Aranda`s teacher. Considered by many Cubans to be the best dancer on the island. Santos is actually teaching Sting to dance right now.

This is how Cubans and how Santos dance Cha Cha Cha.

Here is a 66 year old Cuban teacher. When I say New York and LA style dancing come from Cuban dancing, you can see it here. This guy never took any lessons from Eddie Torres or Francisco Vasquez and was dancing this way BEFORE salsa according the New Yorkers was even invented.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sinT4a4VHqA&

The rhythm of modern day salsa is SON and that is where is the clave comes from. Son was invented long before the invention of salsa. The cross body lead in modern day salsa dancing comes from SON and was NOT invented in New York (even by Eddie Torres`s admission). Look here. When Latin Americans day cross body leads were invented in North America, that is wrong. Cross body leads are Latin.

Notice that they ALSO do what is called the basic mambo step in Toronto. But their basic step is son montuno step, which is the most beautiful step in Cuban dancing. Each step involves the whole body (especially the hips) and really emphazises the SLOW in the quick-quick-slow.

Cuban couple dance. Santiago in the house.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_ydSmFCdbY

Santiago again. With a couple dancing CONTRATIEMPO. Dancing on 1 in Cuba is A TIEMPO. When do you dance with your slow on different beat of the clave, it is called CONTRATIEMPO. It is kind of like dancing on 2 here, but not exactly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO3Go1Bm7ro&

Imagine you are in Havana on Sunday evening. You go to an outdoor club that has the ocean right next to it. There are only Cubans there. There are spontaneous ruedas happening everywhere. Everyone is having a good time.People talk to you and have come to enjoy the music. There are amazing dancers and the best dancers are usually in their 40's or 50's. No one is there to show off. It costs $2 to get in and the beer is 1$.
There is amazing live band and show and then at 10pm everyone goes home. But almost all the people don't have cars. So, even the most amazing dancer you saw paid his 1 cent to take the Cuban bus and sitting next to you. He talks to you and you realize you have seen him before. This happened to me two weeks ago. And Manuel
Alberto is his name. look at his documentary about his rueda.

Nice timbero1.
But none of your ruedas videos can compare with this. Check it out before youtube takes it off the air again. My favorite move is the Bin Laden move.

Here are some moves you don't see in Toronto. Check them and try.

voltagiosa

Super Mario

And my favorite Tira la Sabana

Nice videos. Especially the Rueda videos. They all come from Dvd instructional videos, no? But they are not the video samples the company supplies, so Youtube might take them off the air if they complain.
