Beg to differ. IMHO, it depends upon physical condition and individual ability of a contestant (person/dancer/etc.) - especially considering salsa is NOT as hard on the body... Doesn't artistry mean a lot? Saw a lot of examples: a) in sports competition when athletes in their 30-ies would beat the crap out of younger crowd; b) my school teacher (NOT phys-ed) in his 40-ies would do 50 pushups without skipping a heartbeat to a dismay of our football team who could not beat it. <br/>In this particular case, it is about showbiz, and general audiences' preferences and nothing else. Should I say more?

I think 30 might even actually be too old. If you have watched the show, the competition is very high, and extremely demanding on the body. After having danced both jazz and ballet, salsa is not as hard on the body in terms of joints and flexibility. Most of the dancers today are also gymnasts and the flips and leaps in the air get tough as you age. Ligaments don't stretch as much, joints are all battered. You could probably kill yourself to compete, but it will hurt!!
